Vintage Guitar Readers Induct Gary Moore to Hall of Fame - 2015

Vintage Guitar magazine, which is celebrating 30 years of publication, has announced inductees to its Hall of Fame, including the late Gary Moore in the Player category. Inductees, as well as winners of this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards, are featured in the magazine’s April issue, available now.

A definitively “unsung hero,” Moore’s career was reflected in virtuosity, diversity, and an uncom- promising body of work. Moore was versed in the areas of blues-rock, power pop, heavy metal, and even jazz-rock fusion, and further separated himself via improvisations with exotic note choices, fluid pas- sagework, textures, and melodic patterns. Influenced by everyone from Frank Zappa to Ollie Halsall to Albert King, he was a flashy lead player as well as a powerful, supportive rhythm player who kept modern blues in the forefront like nobody since Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Other Readers’ Choice winners include Joe Satriani as Artist of the Year, B.B. King as Blues

Player of the Year, Warren Haynes for Rock Player, Brad Paisley for Country Player, and Al Di Meola as Jazz Player, Jeff Beck, Live+ was honored as Album of the Year, while David Gilmour was also inducted to the magazine’s Hall of Fame in the Player category, alongside National founder George Beauchamp as Innovator and the Fender Champ amplifier as Instrument. Winners in all categories are determined by a vote of the magazine’s readership.
